Attempted Suicide Surveillance System

One centralised location bringing together multiple data sources, saving significant time and enabling shared learning on what's taking place in your locality on incidents of suicide attempts

Summary

Following the success of the Suspected Suicide Surveillance System, developed in partnership with Thrive LDN in 2019, we’ve continued this work with Thrive LDN to establish an Attempted Suicide Surveillance System. This has been a committed project with barriers around information governance and GDPR overcome through the use of anonymised data, providing users with population level analysis rather than personal identifiable data.

The solution that has been developed provides one centralised location with multiple data sources connected in

to provide a single view of each case, including case notes and audit logs, and automating the real-time reporting dashboards. This system has been designed to save significant time in collating data from various sources and displaying visual depictions of all the data in one reporting dashboard to support and enable shared learning.

As with the Suspected Suicide Surveillance System, the reporting dashboard depicts various data on trends, patterns and demographics in visual exportable formats. In the example of Thrive LDN, using A&E and Inpatient data sources, graphs and charts are specific to each data source and reports include arrival mode, chief complaint, length of stay, discharge destination, primary diagnosis and much more. The Attempted Suicide Surveillance System provides users the opportunity to replicate that of Thrive LDN using A&E and Inpatient data or create something more bespoke by choosing your own data sources.

This system will enable users to save significant time in tying together multiple data sources and improve learning around attempts in the locality, identify where patterns may be emerging and inform vital prevention activity.
